At A Father’s Vision, current North Carolina community-residence program fees range from $160 to $200 per week, plus a $200 move-in deposit where applicable. Recovery-housing and sober-living costs vary widely by location, residence type, support level, housing costs, staffing, amenities, and what is included.
There is no single national price because fees depend on the city, type of residence, level of support, operating model, housing costs, staffing, amenities, and services included.
The most useful question is not, "What does sober living cost everywhere?" It is, "What does this specific residence charge, what is included, and what will I need at move-in?"
Weekly vs. monthly fees
Some recovery residences charge weekly program fees.
Others charge monthly fees.
A weekly fee can make budgeting easier for residents who are paid weekly, while a monthly structure may be used for higher-cost or enhanced-privacy housing.
Always confirm:
- Program fee
- Deposit
- Due date
- Accepted payment method
- What is included
- What is not included
- Late-payment policy
- Refund policy if applicable
- Move-in amount required

What may be included?
Every residence is different.
Possible inclusions may involve:
- Housing
- Utilities
- Basic household operations
- Recovery-oriented structure
- House accountability
- Some community resources
Never assume that meals, transportation, clinical services, medication, therapy, employment services, or personal expenses are included unless the program specifically says so.
Other expenses to plan for
A realistic budget may include:
- Food
- Transportation
- Phone
- Medication
- Healthcare copays
- Clothing
- Laundry
- Identification documents
- Work supplies
- Court/supervision expenses
- Savings
- Personal items
The weekly housing fee is only one part of financial stability.
Questions to ask before paying
Before sending money, ask:
- What is the exact current program fee?
- Is there a deposit?
- What is due at move-in?
- What is refundable?
- What happens if move-in is delayed?
- What expenses are separate?
- When are payments due?
- What is the policy if I lose my job?
- Is financial assistance available?
- Who can confirm the payment instructions?
Use only payment instructions provided through the organization’s official process.
Building a move-in budget
Example:
If a community residence is $200/week and the standard deposit applies, the resident may need at least:
- $200 first weekly program fee
- $200 deposit
- Plus food, transportation, phone, and personal expenses
That means the actual move-in budget may need to be higher than $400.
The exact amount should always be confirmed through intake.
Why AFV calls it a program fee
AFV uses a guest membership/program-fee model rather than presenting the relationship as ordinary apartment rent.
Public wording should match the actual AFV program documents and current policies.
Start with current information
